Adrian John Snelson

 John Snelson  became a Partner in Ernst & Young in 1984, becoming Divisional Director of the Management Consulting practice in Sydney and National Director of the Performance Improvement Division. John (and his Partners) built the management accounting arm of the consulting practice based on his 16 year background in the Royal Ordnance Factories, International Computers Limited, CableMakers Australia and Comalco Limited.

On leaving Ernst & Young in 2000, John set up his own Management Consulting business, Traction Management Services, specialising in managing small to medium businesses and financial management.

John has worked for most of his career with blue-chip companies, such as AMP, Bank of America, Boral, Cadbury Schweppes, Coca-Cola Amatil, Commonwealth Bank, CSR, Fujitsu, HCF, Leighton Holdings, Readers' Digest, Southcorp, St. George Bank, Telstra, Time Warner and Westfield.

John played a significant role in the implementation of the NSW State Owned Corporations Act and commercialisation, corporatisation and privatisation programs in New South Wales in railfreight, long-distance and suburban passenger trains, gas, electricity transmission and distribution, ferries, water, mines and grain handling. John and his team wrote the Costing Manual for Corporatised Utilities for the NSW Treasury. Federally he has worked on the commercialisation of postal services, telecommunications, airports, the N/S rail corridor, Murray-Darling Basin and universities.

Overseas, John has worked in India and Indonesia, leading the team as Project Director Accounting Reforms (Indian Railways) and Accounting Team Leader - Community Service Obligations (Indonesia) as special advisor.

For three years (2003 - 2005) he was Chief Executive of a charity, Life Education (NSW) Ltd.

In 2001, he conceived the idea of opening a new bank in his community and led the team behind the establishment of the Turramurra Community Bank, becoming the Chairman of the Steering Committee during the feasibility stage and then after incorporation the first Chairman of the Public Company Ku-ring-gai Financial Services Limited and a member of the Board for many years.

On Tuesday 2nd October, 2007 John was presented with the Australian Community Award, being a Certificate of Appreciation to Australian Volunteers "for outstanding service, contribution and dedication to the community".

  • Director - The Society of Australian Genealogists (Historical Society);
  • Director - The Royal Exchange of Sydney (Private Business Club);
  • Chairman - Ku-ring-gai Financial Services Limited (Community Bank);
  • Chairman - 2HHHfm 100.1 and 2NSBfm 99.3 Radio Stations; and
  • Vice President - Hornsby & Ku-ring-gai Rural Fire Sevice Communications Brigade
